By removing paywall barriers for readers, The Orthopaedic Standard aims to support wider engagement with research by surgeons, clinicians, researchers, educators, trainees, healthcare leaders, and policymakers.
We particularly value research that addresses practical clinical questions, underrepresented populations, health-system challenges, and resource-limited settings.
Article Processing Charges
To support open-access publication, an Article Processing Charge of $950 applies to accepted articles.
The APC contributes to the costs of editorial administration, peer-review coordination, production, online hosting, article presentation, and long-term digital availability.
- No submission fee: Authors are not charged at the point of submission.
- Charged after acceptance: APCs apply only after a manuscript has been accepted for publication.
- Transparent payment process: Authors are informed of applicable charges before publication proceeds.
- Equity consideration: Waivers or discounts may be considered for authors from eligible low-resource settings or in cases of demonstrated need.
Note: APCs do not influence editorial decisions. Manuscripts are assessed on scholarly merit, relevance, methodology, ethical compliance, and clarity.
Licensing and Rights
Articles are published under a Creative Commons Attribution License (CC BY), unless otherwise stated.
This license permits readers to share, distribute, and adapt the work, provided appropriate credit is given to the original authors and source.
- Authors retain copyright of their published work.
- Readers may reuse and distribute the article in accordance with the license terms.
- Published content may be used in teaching, research, derivative work, and professional materials with proper attribution.
- The version of record remains available through the journal website.

Waivers and Discounts
Pantheon Academic recognizes that publication fees can be a barrier for some authors. Waivers or discounts may be considered for authors from eligible low-resource settings, early-career researchers without institutional support, or authors facing genuine funding limitations.
Requests should be made as early as possible and will be considered by the editorial office according to journal policy. Waiver requests do not affect editorial assessment or peer-review decisions.
